Progress Report #2

It's been nearly four months since our last progress report, and lots has happened since then!

When you see Jameswood on a daily basis, it's really easy to forget how far you've come and notice the changes that are slowly happening. When a friend re-visits and exclaims, in shock, that, "the place has electricity!" Or, "this room is cleared out!" You realise, lots has changed since we first started the project!

It's important to allow some time for self reflection. We've taken on HUGE project, and looking back at all we've accomplished so far helps motivate us to carry on! 


RECAP

In our last progress report, we had managed to clear the garden - an epic task that required battling through a forest of weeds that had engulfed our property and rescuing trees from the chokehold of ivy and other climbers.

We also managed to clear out the old furniture and miscellaneous objects that had been left in the house, in what had-been garden sheds and on the property from fly tipped over the years. 

Very importantly, we hand-dug our first drainage ditch. It runs end-to-end across the top of our property, and diverts a constant stream of water away from the house. Over the past few months, our property has slowly, but surely, dried out! Where I used to get stuck in ankle deep mud, I can now confidently walk on solid ground.  

I also posted a short blog on some small wins we had made back in February - a trying month for us - because of the cold weather; these small victories kept our spirits high and helped us plod along on the house! We managed to find the cable that would connect our house to mains electricity, lay a driveway so that our Transit and delivery trucks could access the site, and we got ourselves a caravan, so that we could live comfortably while working on the house!
